Our Blog

At the end of April, 2017, after the ski lifts closed for the season and before the locals made their mass exodus out of town for tropical vacations, Steamboat Sotheby’s International Realty had one piece of unfinished business from the winter that needed to be tied up. With excitement, SSIR headed to historic Howelsen Hill in downtown Steamboat, home of the offices for the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, to meet with Jim Boyne, Executive Director, and Lane Malone, Director of Development of SSWSC, to present them with a check for $10,622.11 – the proceeds from the 2017 Winter Carnival Commemorative Poster program.

The program was developed as a way to create synergy between art, advocacy and athletics – three things that are key pillars in Steamboat Sotheby’s International Realty’s efforts to support and contribute to our local community.

This year’s poster was an original oil-on-canvas piece created by local artist Chula Beauregard, depicting the scene of Winter Carnival’s Night Show Extravaganza at Howelsen Hill, which is one of the most anticipated and well-attended events of the entire year in Steamboat. Once the original work was created, it was transformed into the poster, which was then printed and sold at several locations throughout Steamboat in conjunction with the Winter Carnival events. Chula’s original art work was auctioned at the Stars at Night Gala in late December, and limited edition framed, signed and numbered prints were also offered for sale.

The collaboration between Steamboat Sotheby’s International Realty and the Steamboat Winter Sports Club continues to grow and flourish.

“The SSWSC thanks the Steamboat Sotheby’s International Realty team for their creativity and effort in commissioning original artwork that honors and pays tribute to Winter Carnival, and also provides critical funds to support the athletes of the SSWSC.  This project has been fun for all of us and has been a resounding success raising more than $25,000 in the last 2 years.  We look forward to our continued partnership with Steamboat Sotheby’s, and are excited to see the continued creation of artwork that embodies all of the heritage, spirit and history of our unique Winter Carnival!”
-Jim Boyne, Executive Director, Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club
