Our Blog

Don’t be such a stick in the mud! Off-season is actually a great time to be in Steamboat.

In case you haven’t already figured it out, “springtime in the Rockies” doesn’t exist. It pretty much snows throughout April and at least once in May. And every year people complain about how they already put away all their winter clothes and then it snowed. But it always snows in the spring. Every. Single. Year. The return of winter is pretty much a threat until early June. So if you can’t get out of town, keep one puffy jacket and wool beanie on the coat rack until the mud dries out. In the meantime, it’s not all bad. There are plenty of awesome off-season specials and other deals to be had.

With the tourists gone, it’s also a time to reconnect with the local community and be reminded of small town life and what makes Steamboat so special.

Shred Day at Yampa Valley Bank, 600 S. Lincoln Avenue
Tue. May. 10, 2016
2:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Just because it has the word “shred” doesn’t mean it’s a snowboarding event. We mean literally shred, as in tearing up documents, not tearing up the terrain park. Yampa Valley Bank hosts their annual 2016 Shred Day. Suggested donation is $10, to shred documents (with a limit of three banker’s boxes per family) benefiting Partners Mentoring Youth in Routt County.

Saturday, May 16, 8:00am – 11:30am, BBQ 11:30am – 1p
It’s time to clean up our act, and there’s no better time to do it then during mud season. The City of Steamboat Springs teams up with Routt County Environmental Health, YVSC, Yampatika, and the Litter Solutions Committee to clean up the roads throughout the county. So get your garbage bags ready and register in advance with Routt County Environmental Health:  970.870.5588  hsavalox@co.routt.co.us

CONGRATULATE
When the tourists are gone and the lifts stop running, it’s time to bring the community back together again. What better way to do that than to come out to support our town’s future at The Steamboat Springs High School Graduation Ceremony on June 4, 2016 at 10am in the Kelly Meek Gym—tassel and gown not included.

Cabaret, Chief Theater, 813 Lincoln Ave
Daily, Thu. May. 12, 2016 – Sat. May. 14, 2016 , 8:00 PM
Believe it or not, people in Steamboat have more than just athletic talent. Join the Chief Theater as they host this annual mud season tradition. Cabaret is a live, comedic, never politically correct performance with the main goal to make people laugh, along with sharing our town’s local talent with sketch skit comedy. This event is one of the biggest fundraisers for the Steamboat Springs Arts Council, providing funds to continue their artistic, educational and community programs in the Yampa Valley. The locals’ favorite show of the year is back again and as funny as ever. Laugh at the foibles and follies of our small town. There will be six shows at the Chief Theater, 6pm and 8pm, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. Additional details and ticket release dates to be announced soon.
