On December 30, 2016, the 2017 Winter Carnival Commemorative Poster was unveiled at the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club’s annual Stars at Night Gala.

The commemorative poster program, initiated and organized by Steamboat Sotheby’s International Realty, raised over $15,000 for the SSWSC in 2016, its inaugural year. The goal is to surpass that benchmark in 2017. 100% of the proceeds go directly to the SSWSC. The program was started as an vision and an effort to create a connection between SSIR’s local advocacy program with the Arts and athletics in Steamboat – all three of which are vital to the fabric of our community.

This year, Steamboat Sotheby’s International Realty commissioned local artist Chula Beauregard to create a one-of-a-kind piece for the 2nd Annual Commemorative Poster Program. Chula’s oil-on-canvas creation, depicting the fireworks over Howelsen Hill during the Winter Carnival Night Extravaganza, perfectly captures the essence of Winter Carnival and the excitement that the event brings to Steamboat Springs.

When Chula first set out to create the piece, she wanted to give her creativity the space that it needs to really flow. So, she didn’t narrow in on one specific theme. Instead, she created four different works, each portraying a different aspect of the spirit of Winter Carnival. Once the four pieces were presented to Steamboat Sotheby’s International Realty, Chula worked with SSIR to choose the one that best captured the essence of Winter Carnival, including the color, vibrancy and excitement of Steamboat during the event.

Once the original artwork was created, Steamboat Sotheby’s International Realty Art Director Gretchen Coleman added the graphic elements to transform the art into a poster. The original piece, along with the first three limited edition, signed and numbered, framed prints were auctioned at the Stars at Night Gala, raising over $5000 for the SSWSC.

The presentation of the art at the Stars at Night Gala marks the beginning of the Winter Carnival Poster program. A limited number of framed, signed and numbered prints are available for purchase, and poster prints are also available. Prints will be available for purchase at Steamboat Sotheby’s International Realty’s three offices, as well as Lyon Drug, during the street events at Winter Carnival and at the Night Extravaganza on February 11, 2017.
