The Ikon Pass. 26 Destinations. 1 Pass.

Alterra, the new owners of the Steamboat Ski Area, recently unveiled the Ikon Pass and they are now on  sale for the 2018/2019 ski season. With access to 26 ski resorts from the West to the Rockies, Canada to the Eastern U.S., the pass offers skiers and riders more options than ever for where to hit the slopes. But how much is the pass? Do you need to buy it now? What is the deal for passes for your family? It can be a little confusing. To help you sort through all of the information, we have compiled a summary of the pass prices, deadlines and benefits. Read on for the low-down.

WHAT IS THE COST?

The short answer is that the Ikon Pass is $899 and the Ikon Base Pass is $599 for adults if purchased by April 30 (see “benefits” section below for details on the Base Pass).

Teen Passes (ages 13-17) are $719 for the Ikon Pass and $479 for the Ikon Base Pass.

Child Passes (ages 5-12) are $449 for the Ikon Pass and $299 for the Ikon Base Pass. Children ages 4 and under are $29 for either the Ikon Pass or Ikon Base Pass. See below for discounted Child “add-on” Pass pricing.

Pricing for Teen and Child Passes is based on the child’s age as of the date of purchase.

There is no financing option or “pay a deposit now and the balance by a later date” option offered for Ikon Passes or Ikon Base Passes. There are also no special senior or student pricing, and no 8-day or 15-day passes.

DEADLINE? WHEN DO I NEED TO PURCHASE MY PASS?

The Pass prices above are offered until April 30, after which time they may or may not go up. Alterra has not made any announcements yet regarding pass prices after the initial April 30 offering.

One caveat – for the discounted Child “add-on” Pass (see below), you must purchase both the adult pass and the child pass by April 9.

To be safe, if you want to ensure that you are going to get the best price, you should purchase your pass by April 30 (or April 9 if you are going to take advantage of the Child “add-on” discounted pass option).

IS THERE A KIDS SKI FREE PROGRAM OFFERED?

There is no “Kids Ski Free” program, but you can purchase one “add-on” Child Pass for children ages 12 and under with each full price adult pass purchased. A Child add-on Ikon Pass is $199, Ikon Base Pass is $149 (with the same limitations as the Ikon Base Pass) if both the adult and child passes are purchased by April 9.

The caveat here is the April 9 Deadline for the discounted add-on price. After April 9, the “add-on” option goes away and you will have to pay the full Child Pass rate ($449 for Ikon Pass, $299 for Ikon Base Pass).

Passes for children ages 4 and under are a stand-alone item and are $29 regardless of whether they are purchased in conjunction with an adult pass or not.

IS THERE A STEAMBOAT-ONLY PASS OFFERED?

The only “Steamboat-only” pass offered is the Merchant Pass, offered through the Steamboat Resort Chamber Association at a price of $999. There is no discounted Child Pass price under the Merchant Pass program.

The Merchant Pass program is administered by companies who are members of the Steamboat Chamber Resort Association for the benefit of their employees, and when offered through an employer, allows employees to put down a deposit on a ski pass then pay off the pass by a deadline determined by the employer. Details of Merchant Pass offerings are determined by employers, and not administered or determined by the Steamboat Ski Area or Alterra.
