Steamboat Springs is famous for its Western heritage and no time of year is that heritage more on display than when the Routt County Fair comes to the Fairgrounds, this year from August 15-18.
The 105th Annual Fair continues a summer tradition enjoyed by Routt County residents and visitors, and offering entertainment and activities for all ages.
According to the Routt County Fair website, the Fair was “born of a time when ‘children did chores, arrowheads could be found on the back 40, and ice was cut from the river. Since then we’ve seen the outhouse hauled away, the plow horse replaced by a John Deere and farm kids majoring in agribusiness.’ The Fair honors the pioneers who gathered at the Routt County Fairgrounds for the last 105 years to ‘share laughter and lies.'”
The official Routt County Fair kicks off at 7pm on August 15 with a “Cheers to 105 Years Bonfire.” The event is free and includes cowboy poetry, live music, and of course, a bonfire.
The entertainment and events continue through August 18, and include 4-H shows, the Hill Petroleum Demolition Derby, Junior Livestock Sale, Home Arts Check-In, Barn Dance with music by Hunter Hathcoat and an Open Horse Show from August 9-11.
