At Steamboat Sotheby’s International Realty, our brokers make us who we are. Get to know a little bit more about Cristin Frey, Broker Associate.

How long have you been in the real estate industry, and why did you get into this business?
I’ve been in real estate since 2016. Luckily, I work on a team with Colleen and Michael de Jong, two of the best and most knowledgeable realtors in Steamboat, so they teach me everything they know. I used to sell radio ads and DJ for the local radio station here in Steamboat, and later went on to be the marketing director of Strings Music Festival before I found myself in real estate. A background in sales and marketing and an interior designer as a mother makes the perfect storm for a career in real estate.

What is your favorite thing about being a real estate broker?
The people, of course! Helping to solve one of their biggest challenges at the current moment is extremely rewarding.

What is something you have learned from being a real estate broker?
Working under Colleen has really taught me that the difference is in the details when it comes to choosing a realtor. There are so many things that go into purchasing real estate, and it’s our job to go above and beyond with due diligence so we can feel confident our clients are making the best decision.

How long have you been in Steamboat and what brought you here?
When I was a teenager, I was a dreamer, and more often than not, I would turn those dreams into reality. Every time an edition of Outside Magazine came on the shelves with the Top 20 Places to Live list, I would map out my future. After graduating from the University of Colorado with a degree in advertising, I moved to California to be a ski bum. The years that followed took me around the globe, mostly to the countries that I could afford on my shoestring budget. I danced the tango until sunrise in Argentina, spent Carnival in Brazil, hiked in Patagonia, watched the sunrise at Machu Picchu, and floated down the Amazon River in Bolivia on a homemade raft!
Needless to say, I love adventure. When it was time to start my real life, I made sure it was in a place that would make Outside Magazine’s Top 20 list. But what I didn’t know was that it was the people and the community of Steamboat Springs that would lead me to stay here since I first arrived in 2006.

Currently, what is your 1-2 sentence answer to the question: How’s the market?
Incredible…if you are a Seller.

What do you like to do outside of work?
I love to paddleboard down the Yampa River in the summer with my little girls and enjoy sunset bike rides on Emerald when I can sneak away from work and family for a quick moment to myself. I also love to cross country ski on Rabbit Ears pass just after a powder day while all the crowds are on the mountain. And if you have little kids, you know that one of the best joys is watching them learn how to ski!

What makes Steamboat Sotheby’s International Realty unique?
The people are really great! I should have gotten into real estate years ago; it’s such a supportive group of fun, creative people. From a marketing perspective, the Sotheby’s brand and the network are really top-notch. It’s really great exposure for clients!

What is one of your greatest personal accomplishments?
I think I’m living it. I’m currently raising toddlers – I’m going to look back when life has slowed and say, “how the heck did I manage to do all of that!”

What are you passionate about?
People. They energize me, inspire me, and teach me. I love living in a resort community because people from all walks of life come here. I don’t travel as much as I would like these days, and I love that new people come into my life daily.

What is your favorite thing about living in the Yampa Valley?
Steamboat is breathtakingly beautiful, but you really don’t know the true beauty until you settle down and raise a family here. The entire community of like-minded people comes together for each other. It really does take a village, and this is one village I am so lucky to have stumbled upon.
