Our Blog

As 2020 is a year of many firsts, this year will be the first in more than 30 years that families and kids won’t be strutting up and down Lincoln Avenue showing off their creative costumes during the annual Halloween Stroll. But that doesn’t mean the fun has to stop. The City of Steamboat Springs will not be closing Lincoln Avenue for the event, so we’ve rounded up a few ideas to make sure Halloween is as much fun as always, while still maintaining social distancing and safety measures to keep our community safe.

BRING THE STROLL TO YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD

Organize a costume parade through your neighborhood so the kids can get dressed up, show off their costumes, and keep candy stashed at home to enjoy after the parade.

CREATE PRE-MADE TREAT BAGS

To make Halloween a contact-free event, prepare baggies with candy and treats and have them outside for kids to grab. Maybe even leave out a bottle of hand sanitizer at the end of your driveway.

HOST A VIRTUAL COSTUME PARTY

One great thing about virtual events is that they bring people together who might not otherwise be close enough physically to celebrate with each other. Host a virtual costume party with your friends and family to share fun costumes, enjoy candy together, and maybe even vote on a costume competition winner!

HALLOWEEN SCAVENGER HUNT

Gather your neighbors and set up a Halloween scavenger hunt, hiding candy, treats, or trinkets for the kids to search for, of course, while wearing masks and staying 6 feet apart.

HALLOWEEN MOVIE MARATHON

Are you a big scary movie lover? Maybe this year is a good excuse to stay in with a bowl of candy and binge watch some classic scary movies or Halloween family movies (Hocus Pocus, anyone?!).
