Steamboat Sotheby’s International Realty is accepting donations for this year’s Mickey’s Fund toy drive – a program to serve the in-and outpatient families at Children’s Hospital Colorado who are struggling. Mickey’s Fund, a program established by longtime local Moose Barrows to honor the memory of his son, has evolved into an event that the hospital calls Snowpile.

New, unwrapped toys and monetary donations are currently being collected at the Steamboat Sotheby’s Realty main office at Wildhorse and at the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club office at Howelsen Hill. Toys must be dropped off no later than Monday, December 13th and will be delivered to Children’s Hospital Colorado for the Snowpile event taking place December 19-21.

“Moose has been a key partner in making our Snowpile event a huge success year after year,” says Carla Barrentine, Director of Integrative and Creative Care at Children’s Hospital Colorado. “Through Mickey’s fund, we are able to provide gifts for our patients and their siblings. The Steamboat Community has been an integral part of our event for many years through their generous donations of money and toys for our kids. Beyond this, Moose and other Steamboat residents have come year after year to deliver the toys and to volunteer at this incredible event. Unfortunately, we will not have volunteers at the event this year due to covid, but we are beyond grateful to everyone for their contributions, and we look forward to seeing our Steamboat partners again next year!”

The program serves over 1,000 children each year, ranging in age from infant to adolescent. Over the multi-day event, the children and their families enter a room overflowing with toys – everything from bikes to iPads, stuffed animals to trucks.

It is a simple way to make a difference in the lives of children who are spending the holidays in the hospital, and a way to bring their families some holiday joy.
